About Se Luz, Guatemala

WHO - SE LUZ is a STORM Ministries outreach in Santiago, Guatemala which follows the same model we have in the USA. SE LUZ means Be Light in Spanish. The youth teams go out and serve the community and "be lights" through their good works.

WHAT- In Antigua, Guatemala (South America) we have a group of people who support SJXSO - Serving Jesus by Serving Others. This mission's daily operations are run by local resident and construction savvy person - Romeo Sactic. SE LUZ is structured to stand on its own  but does receive support from STORM Ministries with; financial gifts, operational support and volunteers who travel to assist them on selected projects. The projects are all construction related and help to build meeting sites, homes, sanctuary and pride in the community. Most youth in this area have few choices from the violence and crime that is rampant in this region. Through Se Luz they have another choice, a positive choice that can change them and the communities they serve and live in.

By offering our time, talents and services without gain we are sincerely supporting our mission to the deserving people and communities of Guatemala.

HOW - Our ministry was formed in 2005 by Kali Pliego (right side in photos) who was a long time veteran of STORM in Minnesota. On some mission trips she took to Guatemala she noticed a void. She noticed that there was not a local ministry that had the model of serving each other for the glory God. So, she took it upon herself to change that and SE LUZ was born.

WHERE - The base of operations for Se Luz is in the mountain region of Santiago/Antigua, Guatemala (South America). This is an area about the size of Tennessee with a huge population of over 10 million people.

WHY - Under the leadership of Pastor Dave Brown, six mission teams have travelled to Guatemala from Pilgrim United Methodist Church in Minnesota. One of these trips Kali, a six year veteran of STORM Camp, received a burden for the people of Guatemala. The burden became a call and for the past four years Kali has been laying the ground work for indigenous leadership of a STORM -like ministry in the village of Santiago and the city of Antigua. STORM Ministries is very proud to be a part of this partnership with Kali, the communities of Guatemala and the SE LUZ leadership.

Se Luz is a daily operation where there are always projects being developed, planed, worked on and completed. The local peoples are excited to "stand on their own" and SJSXO. The teams that do go from the USA to Se Luz are always touched by the strength of spirit, positive attitude and love the peoples of Guatemala have. Join us or with your gifts be they your time, talents or funds. All are welcome!
